The sculptures of Jacques Perreaut (1948-2018), a sculptor from Burgundy, are inspired by military architecture, they are powerful and reassuring, calm and fortifying, they fear nothing, they observe, they wait. Jacques Perreaut studied sculpture at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Dijon and mastered drawing as well as bronze and aluminium casting. His preoccupations were linked to research on military architecture and in particular on fortifications. His works of a military and memorial nature, often uncluttered, sometimes on the verge of the abstract. He relives History through Art, he disseminates this History, he purifies it and abstracts it. In his workshop, he melts and casts his sculptures himself: bronze or aluminium casting. The entire production of his sculptures is an essential aspect of Jacques Perreaut's work. He expresses a real passion for fire, the forge and the shattering noise; symbol of the violent birth of a sculpture, a moment between the material and the artist. Weight is a very important element in his sculpture, as he himself says weight is « a concentration of energy, a contained violence, voluntarily balanced ».
